I think Johnny Carson used to have them on and then when he retired he passed them on to Letterman. So he should get some credit. I also heard that Piedmont is where all rich folk from SF fled after 1906 earthquake.

Actually, Piedmont exists so that people who live there won't have to pay for the Oakland schools or social services. See, for example, all the carveouts from LA in City of Quartz.
