Frameline 29: Peaches Christ at the Castro and her Tran-ilogy of Terror

We are hopelessly addicted to Peaches Christ. The performer, filmmaker, movie curator, and cult mastermind is like San Francisco's own walking version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show: a strange, acerbic, glamorously aggressive drag queen protectress. Best known for her Midnight Mass series, her cable access show, and her occasional hosting of at Trannyshack, Ms. Christ (along with her dapper alter-ego, Joshua Grannell) has compiled four of her excellent horror films -- "Season of the Troll," "A Nightmare on Castro Street," "Whatever Happened to Peaches Christ," and "Grindhouse" -- and screened them Sunday night for a packed, frenzied crowd at the Castro.
The exact content of the films isn't really crucial; there's a lot of makeup, and trashy jokes, and screaming and drinking and running around and falling down and a particularly gory scene involving the intravenous administration of orange spray-cheese. What made the evening awesome was the presence of Peaches, and Heklina, and, to the audience's delight, their real-life parents (news that drew a Father's Day cheer from the crowd). Squeaky Blonde was also present, and a couple other dames; we had to leave early to catch the last bus home (f**king MUNI) so we don't know how the evening ended, but we can only assume that there was significant lewdness. Peaches is currently doing the sexy legwork to get a feature version of "Grindhouse" produced, which is such exciting news we nearly fainted with pleasure. Oh, Peaches.
