Everyone in the Julie Newmar film, Terence Stamp in Priscilla, Hedwig, Hank Azaria on Nip/Tuck, Tim Curry in, well, everything, Wilson Cruz in Ally McBeal, David Thornton in Too Tired to Die, John Lone in M Butterfly are all debatable (note than tragic transgender and tragic dq are virtually interchangable, pop-culture wise, which is innacurate in the real world) but top line examples of the stereotype to which I'm referring.

i think i know what you mean by "the tragic drag queen," but for the life of me i can't think of any examples (aside from the actually tragic one or two in paris is burning) ... help me brainstorm, here, i'm running on empty. the best i can think of is patrick swayze in that awful julie newmar film.
