"What do you mean, no one delivers?" Jesus H. Christ in a sidecar drinking tequila ... anyone who's ever lived in NYC knows: NOBODY DELIVERS IN THIS GODDAMN TOWN! Any restaurant in NYC will send a guy on a bike right to your door with your order (from a SINGLE SLICE to a full-on dinner for twelve) in less than 30 minutes -- as will the video store, the dry cleaner, the LIQUOR STORE, the friggin POT DEALER, for chrissake. There's this whole on-demand round-the-clock two-dollar-tip economy working in that city, and it's nearly as important as the 24-hour subway system. GOD, do I miss that.

What do you mean, no one delivers? Haven't you heard of Webvan?

I tried a service like this like in 2000. It was marketed as e-cooking, I forgot the actual name: you ordered on-line, some VC believed it was going to be the next Big Thing, so they were litteraly giving steaks away for free. Profitability was a Bad Thing to have in a business plan then. It was a good steak, for sure. Then they merged with pet.com.

A while back I found this comment by besos food on egullet:

"We recently started a new Bay Area food company and have found that the food blogs that write about our business send much better customers to us than any mainstream press. We have an PR agency and have gotten great write ups but the blogs are more trusted by many readers. They are definitely going to be the future of the new "word of mouth" marketing, i have seen a dozen seminars on it in the last month."
