Interview: Cedric Westphal

Summer time and easy living wouldn't be complete without baseball and good eats. We've incorporated a crew of new SFist contributors to guide you through the goodlife in coming months.
From the get go our venerable editor, Jackson West, had a vision for SFist to become a cultural force. Key to his plan for cyber domination was forging strong ties with capital C culture. He dreamed of having an SFist post all in French. The first wave of his Francophilia has been accomplished with the recruitment of food writer Cedric Westphal.
Cedric's Gastronomique column is a French man's perspective on eating in San Francisco. Doesn't get more legit than that. Plus Cedric is a member of the Caltrain Bike Car Crew, which as everyone knows, is the coolest public transit posse around.
Name
Cedric Westphal
Introduce yourself in one sentence
Gastronomique contributor.
Age and Occupation
33yo, engineering geek.
Home Town
Nancy, France.
How long have you lived in the Bay Area and Where
I lived in the city since 1997. I moved here to escape LA, where I lived the 3 years before. I lived in the panhandle/NOPA area, the sunset, noe valley, bernal height and a short stint in Berkeley. I am now in the lower haight/upper safeway.
BEST story EVER on SFist
I love Rita's weekly We Read the Weeklies. That, and I'd be rude not to say I enjoyed a lot when I was picked as Bay Blogger Thursday.
BEST Picture on SFist
The panda on getty's carpet. Or the guy kicking the weekly box. Both rock.
I wanted to be an SFist contributor because (besides the obvious fame and glory that would be mine):
Jackson wanted contributors who would rank behind him in the alphabetical order, he is such an egotistical maniac.
You should read my SFist posts because
Gastronomique does not have an expense account, so the places I write about are the one that I actually want to go to. It keeps me honest, and hopefully useful. But let me take the opportunity to say that SFist readers should not be shy of commenting. I am sure there are excellent places they could share with me, or tips about new opening and such.
Favorite website
fafblog.blogspot.com
Favorite mode of transportation
bike+caltrain.
Best Band or Musician to come out of the Bay Area
I love jazz and I met him not so long ago at yoshi's, so I'll say Berkeley's Benny Green. I am sure there are other musicians I love that I don't know they come from the bay area.
Favorite local hangout
when is SFist raves is going to rave about zeitgeist?
I have found/sold/bought the following on craigslist:
my place, and my place before that, and the place before that, and my car and the car before that.

Wow, another fafblog fan! Giblets rules.
Derrick, don't you mean Pope Supremicus Magnifium Increate the Worldstomping rules?
No opinion on giblets (who knew all of the chicken's organs naturally grew in a little plastic bag like that? Bioagriculture is amazing!) -- but thank you for the kind words about We Read The Weeklies! Le Blog de SF's incisive Meredith Brody analysis is always a delight too. (Why DOES she only eat near the Embarcadero? Is it close to her house or something?)
I have stopped reading Meredith Brody, and instead I just reach for Ced's take every week. Ced, you truly read Brody so I don't have to. Thank you dearly.
