SFist Reads

How is it possible that we racked up 7 bucks of fines? We were so embarassed when we stopped by to pick up some of our online reserves, and were barred from checking anything out until we ponied up the dough. We guess it's still cheaper than buying a book from one of our local independent bookstores (though if you are going to buy, they are the only way to go), but we're still ashamed.

SFist Rita's finally reading again, and just finished Callgirl by Jeannette Angell. Angell is totally like the sequel to Angel, in that she's an adjunct sociology professor in the Boston area by day -- and mid-scale callgirl by night!!!! Ooooh! The book's very pretentious and Angell seems really defensive about people viewing her as "smart" (mention that PhD much, Jeannette?) and not "just" a prostitute -- but no denying it's hilarious nonetheless!

SFist Cheshire has been reading a slew of plays in preparation for the 05/06 season at his new gig at Berkeley Rep. He was surprised to find out that he actually enjoyed Our Town, which he always thought was strictly the purview of high-school drama departments, not that there's anything wrong with that. He also liked a new play by Jordan Harrison, Finn in the Underworld, a creepy little play that ought to be nice and dark on stage.

SFist Eve is 71 pages in to Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go and can't decide if she likes it or hates it. Anyone else read it? If so, what did you think?
