We Read The Weeklies

current.gif
Last week's winner, the SF Weekly: The Best Of ish! We nearly threw our back out getting it out of the box! So here we are, flip flip flip, feeling smug that we already know a bunch of the best of picks ("Best Nepalese food: Pssssh, of course it's going to be Little Nepal! We are too old school for this town!"), and -- holy crap! They gave us best local blog! Yipes, nowhere left for us to go but down! Full gloating will commence in separate posts -- but we would also be remiss in our solipsism if we neglected to mention the mention of this very column in the write-up, so thank you very much, SF Weekly! (We only kid you because we love!) In other news, readers vote Chris Daly worst local politician, and Golden Gate Bridge best local landmark. And hey, this means we get to send SFists Jackson and Eve to the big awards ceremony now too, right? Fun!

Okay, it's not really all about us -- so we're moving on, to the East Bay Express: A kerrayyyy-zee letter from a person who wrote a book about cooking for a dog with food allergies. Why isn't the Oakland City Council race interesting? Cover article: a totally, totally fascinating article from a juror on the first Gwen Araujo trial about why they hung. Hilarious I Like Eating comic about the challenge that is Todai. And a dry-as-a-gimlet (are gimlets dry?) review of the Coldplay show.

SFist Jackson's mainstream media debut and the pick of the week after the jump!

The Guardian: Not only SFist Jackson's media debut but his article's on the cover! (Can you really schlep camping gear all the way to Yosemite on public transit only? Oh yes you can!). Chris Daly's new grassroots organization. A comically trivial update on the Guardian's lawsuit against the Weekly (upshot: nothing is happening). An Infiltrator-alike who wears shorts in the city to see what happens (short answer: feet begin to bleed from his ironic sandals). Annalee Newitz gets a merit badge in copyright fair use! And a new video game section, with a review of GTA: San Andreas. Um, a little late, guys?

Pick of the week: Well..... you know we totally want to give it to the Weekly (best blog! How can this be?) -- but that Gwen Araujo article is so good! Plus, SFist Jackson's article in the Guardian.... this job is so hard! Okay, we'll give it to the EBX -- but only in part because we know you're going to pick up the Weekly to read over your lunch anyways. Best blog -- imagine that!
