When The Lights Go Down In The City
Our concert picks for the week of 4/28-5/4.
We have two words for you this week: giveaway bonanza. Not only will we tell you about great music coming to San Francisco, we will also hook you up with some fantastic musical prizes.
Keep reading for your chance to win:
* A pair of tickets to tonight's sold out Eisley show at Slim's!
* A copy of British Sea Power's CD Open Season!
* A pair of tickets to see Cake next Friday!
That's right, tonight's Eisley show with Reggie and the Full Effect and New Found Glory at Slim's is sold out. If you're desperate to see these wunderkinds live before they rock Coachella, two options remain: Head to Amoeba at 6pm to catch their free in-store, or email us here for a chance to win two free tickets to the Slim's show. (Be sure to include your name and phone/email by 6pm tonight.) If you don't win tickets, you have several other options this evening. Bimbo's has international shoegazers M83 and Ulrich Schnauss to make you swoon. Peter Hook of New Order will be spinning down at Popscene's release party for Waiting for the Siren's Call. Pacific Northwest rockers The Ruby Doe kick off Bottom of the Hill's bill, and the Fiery Furnaces and Dios Malos play their first of two nights at Great American.

Shouldn't you support some local artists this weekend? On Friday Bart Davenport plays with a full band at Cafe Du Nord, and the Gris Gris get sweaty at the Hemlock. We didn't think it was possible to be more fascinated with Mike Patton, until we saw the documentary on the making of Bjork's latest album Medulla, to which he contributed vocals. Witness his creative genius live when his band Fantômas plays with Hella at the Fillmore. On Saturday, the Court and Spark opens for Magnolia Electric Co. at Bottom of the Hill. Also that night, our friends in The Heavenly States rock the Independent when they open for British Sea Power. What's that you say? You really wish you had a copy of BSP's new CD Open Season? Email us here with your name, email or phone, and mailing address before Saturday at 5pm for your chance to win it!
Your chance to win Cake tickets, after the jump.
Be wide awake by 10am on Sunday morning for a shot at purchasing tickets for Coldplay's May 4th concert at The Fillmore, which should sell out in approximately one millisecond. That afternoon, Thee Parkside and Bottom of the Hill have a battle of the barbecues. Thee Parkside advertises a "Free Sunday Chili Dog BBQ," which either means the chili dogs are free, or it's just free admission. Bottom of the Hill tells you up front that $5 will get you in to hear the music and to eat a heapin' plate o' BBQ. Another exciting last minute show happens Sunday night, when Mercury Rev plays the Independent in support of their new record The Secret Migration.
The legendary Gang of Four stops off at the Fillmore on Monday and Tuesday after their Coachella appearance. Catch Danish duo the Raveonettes at their free Amoeba in-store performance on Monday at 6:30pm. On Tuesday, fans of sensitive Brit Pop will be at Slim's to see Sloan and The Shore. Starting Wednesday, our friends at Wide Hive Records present a month long residency by live hip-hop jazz collective Variable Unit at Red Devil Lounge.

And next Friday, May 6th, we want to send you and a guest to see Cake play at San Jose State University. Enter to win below, and be sure to give us your name, address and an email or phone number so we can confirm a winner. Deadline for entry is Thursday, May 5th at noon.
Note: Please don't enter unless you'll be able to make it to the show. Tickets will be available at will-call.
