SFist Cares ... About the Earth

Last week, we talked about Ultimate Recycling. Today, we want to remind you about Regular Recycling. Because tomorrow is Earth Day.

SFist loves the earth. Without it, we'd just be floating in space. Terra firma is where it's at. There are plenty of Earth Day-related events around this weekend for you to choose from and, frankly, we'll take any opportunity we can to remind you to reduce, reuse and recycle. Earth Day is also a good time to take a look at local park and beach clean-up groups and schedule some time in your summer calendar to head out and pick up the trash that neanderthals leave behind. Sure, you could wait around until Coastal Cleanup Day in September but it's not like we won't remind you then as well.

Saturday, the California State Parks Foundation is holding its annual restoration and cleanup project at many of the state parks. You can find a listing on the website of all the participating parks and whether or not there are volunteer spots available. SFist's heart is warmed to see that some of them are "Full". But not Golden Gate Park, nope, still room for you to enjoy the outdoors and clear brush there!

You can also shop to support Earth Day (sounds a bit counterintuitive but who are we to say no to shopping). Buffalo Exchange is having a Dollar Day Sale on Saturday and all proceeds to go the Surfrider Foundation.

Take the Ecological Footprint Quiz to find out how much you impact the earth. SFist is sad to say we're an earth pig, but we're going to get better!
