SFist Cares ... About Dogs

We know what it's like to spend your days running around in circles while bunches of people yell at you, so we're especially sympathetic to the beneficiaries of our featured organization this week.

The Golden State Greyhound Adoption group works to rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt out retired racing greyhounds. We love the sleek look and gentle temperment of greyhounds and find particular kinship in their reputation for being total sloths most of the time. (And we love looking at the happy pictures of adopted dogs with their new families which is why we're so late getting this up today).

Golden State Greyhound Adoption has a number of weekend 'Meet-and-Greet' events where you can find out more about becoming greyhound owner or other ways you can support their organization. They'll be at Best in Show this Saturday (April 9th) and then once a month through the summer. Best in Show is located at 300 Sanchez Street @ 16th.

We're not suggesting you run right out and get a dog if you haven't already been considering it, but organizations like this that rescue animals that would otherwise be killed after people are just "done" using them are ones that we love to support.

In related news, SFist Eve let us know that the SF/SPCA is conducting their 2nd annual food drive from April 1 - May 7, leading into Be Kind to Animals week (May 1-7th). And now you know too.

The food will be distributed by Haight Ashbury Food Program & Vet S.O.S.[Veterinarians Street Outreach Services]. Bring an unopened can or bag of dog or cat food & receive a special thank you gift from the animals at The SF/SPCA and SF Animal Care & Control. Donation bins are located in Maddie's Adoption Center, SF/SPCA Veterinary Hospital, SF/SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinic and the lobby of SF Animal Care & Control.

Drop off a bag, won't you?

And now we have to go back to looking at pictures of adoptable dogs. There's something about the way they take the pictures where the dog looks up at you the breaks our normally cold, brittle, hearts.
