kudos to the guy who pointed out arinell. my other faves include (in no order), gaspares - on geary, victors - on polk, escape from ny - haight or castro, and marcellos - on castro. mmmm mmmm....love that pizza.

I don't know jack about New York style pizza, but I know what I like, and I like Village Pizza (on Van Ness or Clement) the best. AWESOME clam and garlic pizza...

If you want a more detailed review, there's a great write-up here: Sibilous: Little Star Pizza by a local food blogger. Don't forget Marcello's across from the Castro Theatre either. It's the closest to New York style I've found around SF.

That's the great thing about Pizza --- everybody has their favorite; everybody's got an opinion. Feel free to keep them coming, folks -- maybe we've got one of our "Food Fight" features (or similar) brewing here.

Arinell's (one in Berkeley, one in the Mission) has the closest approximation to a New Jersey foldable slice that I've had in the Bay Area.

Also, this place is right up the street from The Independent, a fact noted as the Hub and I were enroute to a show there (Ambulance LTD) last weekend. We ate before we went, remembering from a show last summer that food choices there were few and far between (with the delicious notable exception of Brothers' BBQ, which we just weren't in the mood for), but next time, we'll go early and hit the 'star.
