Au Revoir, Twiggy
For the past two years, visitors to Telegraph Hill have had another attraction to sightsee, Twiggy the Mannequin. Decked out all glamtastically fab, the mannequin has been perched on the balcony of jazz singer Carol Peters' house on Telegraph Ave. Tourists took pictures of her, the neighbors adored her, Aaron Peskin praised her. She was oh so San Francisco. Last week, Peters put Twiggy up for sale on eBay, having been forced to get rid of her due to a neighbor's complaint about all the commotion Twiggy caused. Also oh so San Francisco.
The neighbor, who refuses to be identified but we’re guessing also hates small puppies, complained to Peters' Condo Board that Twiggy was "causing throngs of people to gather outside and strange men to lurk around." They also said that Twiggy was bringing down property values by as much as $200,000 (have they seen what the housing market is like?). All this despite the fact that for some strange reason, the condo by-laws has no regulation about putting a mannequin on the balcony. A "Save Twiggy" movement was started, but alas, to no avail. Last week, Peters gave up and did what most people do with their unwanted loved things, put it for sale on eBay where it still is up for sale. Money made from the sale will be donated to the Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Association.
