Though SFist can't possibly imagine why, there are in fact human settlements outside the immediate vicinity of the city. Life is rough out on the frontier, but these terraformed colonies all enjoy the basic necessities of life -- potable water, M-class atmosphere, and copious art shows. And if you think you can tear yourself away from your precious Mission neighborhood for just one day, we heartily recommend a trip up the 101 to A Street Gallery in Santa Rosa for a show entitled "Bright Lights," featuring some pretty froody artists.
One of the downsides to reporting on events happening on the outer rim is that, in general, the subjects are somewhat less likely to have blogs to link to. So because of that, we're not fully sure what the show is like, but based on the names of some of the contributors we're prepared to recommend it. Selected presenters include Eric Bostrom (weirdo painter and our newest Flickr pal), Nathan Adzedarian, Kellesimone Waits (daughter of Tom), Frank Ryan, and Aiyana Udesen (who keeps pretty busy with artstuff here in town). Also: Lyra Harris, Willie Real, Brion Nuda Rosch, Beth Rose, and Chris Wells. And while you're in Santa Rosa, don't forget to soak up some of the glory its most famous resident, Luther Burbank (creator, as you know, of the Burbank Potato). We can think of no better way for you to enjoy spring break.
