So Dan Strachota, one of the music writers for the San Francisco Weekly, forwarded a note from Beau Bonneau casting to the SF Indie yahoo group mailing list. Looks like the Rent production is looking for air guitarists:
COOL, HIP, & IN-SHAPE MALE ROCK MUSICIANS 18 – 35 years old, to work as featured extras in a rock band. You must be a minimum of 18 years old and preferably be in, or have played in, a rock band. Interested musicians must play one of the following instruments: Bass Guitar, Lead Guitar or Drums!!!The scene is set for a popular rock band, think Velvet Underground, New York and a 1980's hot spot. This is background work; however, we need actual musicians for the scene to look authentic. If selected, you will not be playing live music, but rather knowing the motions, portraying a rock band as the soundtrack is played. This scene will be filming one or two days next month, mid-late March in San Francisco. Please note film shoots are long, often lasting up to 12hrs. The rate is $118 for up to eight hours with overtime thereafter.
So all you real rockstars who have been desperate to play fake rockstars in a movie better get down to the casting studio with a headshot! Not only will you get to hang out on Treasure Island and pretend to rock a crowd of superstars as they sing about how difficult but emotionally satisfying being poor and creative in the Lower East Side is, you'll get a whopping $118 plus overtime! Think of it as busting onto the NYC indie rock scene without having to deal with the Hillary Duff.

what, no keyboardists?
Rita, this is about Rock, not pansy keyboards.
My god, wherever will they find enough wannabe skinny rockers in this area? At last count I think there were 16 per square foot in SF.
If it's set in the 80s there should be keyboardists. The 80s were all about the keyboard. Or, better yet... they should have keytarists!
