No big intro this week -- let's just get on with the picks, starting with something we just know you'll want to see:
Evil Dead: Live at the Off-Market Theater
You guessed it: Evil Dead: Live is based on that massive cult favorite, the Evil Dead trilogy of films by Sam Raimi, who most recently gave us the Spider-Man movies. (He also gave us The Quick and the Dead, but we're prepared to forgive him for that.) C.A.F.E., Primitive Screwheads, and the Off-Market Theater are presenting what they call "a straightforward theatrical presentation that pays tribute and remains faithful to the true essence of the Evil Dead series....Based on all three movies, Evil Dead: Live follows the story of Ash as he unknowingly unleashes the dark powers of the Necromonicon and must battle zombies and demons from hell to save his soul." Too bad the stage version doesn't feature the awesomely awesome Bruce Campbell, who played Ash in the movies, but what do you want for the affordable price of $15 a ticket? Thursdays-Saturdays through March 5 at 8 p.m.
(Side note about Mr. Bruce Campbell: we once saw him -- during his "Brisco County" days -- riding in a car in the SF Chinese New Year Parade. Dang cool, we tell you.)
And more items to keep you entertained through the long weekend:
Fêtes de la Nuit at Berkeley Rep
We saw Charles L. Mee's Obie-winning Big Love at the Rep a few years ago and had a great time. As Fêtes de la Nuit is also by Mee and also directed by Les Waters, the potential is high for another good night at the theater. From the Rep's website: "'Fêtes de la Nuit' means 'parties of the night,' and as the name suggests, this is a story of love, passion and Paris. Fêtes is a racy collage that expresses the beauty and complexity of love. It mingles drama, dance and music -- including Edith Piaf, great arias from opera, hip hop and French pop music --into a sensual and exuberant celebration of life." And it's a world premiere, so you get to say you saw it first. Through Feb. 23.
The Bright River at Oakland Metro
We featured this show several weeks ago, and we're really sorry we had missed it. Good news, though -- it's picked up a new, Wednesdays-only run at Oakland Metro. You know we're not letting this one slip away again. Wednesdays at 8 p.m. through March 9.
Casino at the Oakland YWCA
It's a timely enough subject, as Oakland ponders whether to allow a casino near Oakland International Airport. Judith Offer wrote the Oakland-based musical three years ago, but it appears to have proved prescient. There isn't a whole lot of information available about it, but if you want more information, call 510 444-8521.
For more stage options, check out the listings at the Guardian, the Express, the SF Weekly, and the calendar on Theatre Bay Area's website.

Evil Dead Live? Sweet!
At first I thought you were talking about Evil Dead the Musical, but I guess that's an entirely different thing...
Hi! Fans of Bruce Campbell ("Evil Dead", "Army of Darkness", "Xena: Warrior Princess", "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr", "Jack of All Trades") may be interested in meeting Bruce during his tour for his audio version of the book "Make Love The Bruce Campbell Way" September 27-30, 2005 in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland. His second book continues the "B" movie theme with a fictional (?) bumbling B-movie actor Bruce Campbell scoring an A-list film; hilarity ensues. The audio book is narrated by Bruce himself as well as a host of other actors! More about the book and tour is on his site at www.bruce-campbell.com. Cheers!
