San Francisco-based Tribe.net, a sort of hybrid of Yahoo! and Craig's List, announced yesterday that it hit 10,000 recommendations for Bay Area restaurants, services, and the like. The company notes in its press release, "Tribe.net now offers more local restaurant recommendations in San Francisco than Web giants CitySearch and Yahoo!" (Extra props, then, for Yahoo! Business running the press release without comment.) Tribe.net also notes that it achieved such colossal heights after only seven months, compared to, say, CitySearch's eight years in the business.
Confidential to Tribe.net: when you're done patting yourself on the back, you might want to take a look at recategorizing your job listings so that it isn't a pretty much line-for-line plagiarism of Craig's List. Just saying.

and it's because they paid tribe members amazon dollars for writing up recommendations
You're right, anon! See our post on that issue here.
I should pay closer attention to the archives...
I keep forgetting to add SF Station to the damn link list. I don't know if they pay, but their reviews are sure a hell of a lot better than Citysearch's.
