Paris Hilton (probably bringing) Breasts and Viagra to Oscars

oscars 1.25.jpgSFist is pleased to see native son Clint Eastwood garnering so many Academy Award nominations for Million Dollar Baby, the best women-in-boxing film since Against The Ropes. (We're kidding, Hilary, please don't kick our ass.)

We have to admit disappointment that The Incredibles, product of local wunderkinds Pixar was overlooked in the nominations for Best Picture, and instead received nods for Best Animated Feature, Original Screenplay, and Sound Editing. We thought it was going to be the animated movie to break Oscar's glass ceiling of Best Picture. Maybe next time, guys. We're rooting for y'all.

The only other nominee of local interest is Tupac: Resurrection, in which the life of one-time Marin County resident Tupac Shakur is illuminated through home movies, photographs and recited poetry. This writer is just perplexed enough by the continued deification of the musician, actor, poet, and convicted sex offender who died a violent death in 1996 that we will make every effort to see this documentary -perhaps the only time we will go out of our way to see a movie about someone from Marin County that doesn't involve a candy-eating alien.

What did you think of the nominations? Any unwarranted inclusions - or shocking omissions? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Where do I even begin?

Paul Giamatti got SCREWED. Plus "Finding Neverland?" Did anybody see it? Did anybody care? And is "Aviator" all that?

Maybe worst noms ever.

PS- Spiderman II should have totally been nominated for Best Picture.

I'm bummed that music video auteur Michel Gondry didn't get a Best Director nomination for Eternal Sunshine, which was totally my favorite movie of the year.

On the positive side, I'm psyched that Thomas Haden Church got nominated for best supporting actor. I hope they play a clip that has him wearing the nose guard. (Poor Giamatti, he was totally robbed.)
