When The Lights Go Down In The City

By Divine RightENTER TO WIN! "I've got a non-dairy creamer in my jeans, I'm happy to see ya if you know what I mean." Oh, do we ever. Those are the words of Jose Miguel Contreras, ringleader of By Divine Right, a power-pop quartet en route from their hometown of Toronto to rock the bay area next week. Sweet Confusion, the title of their latest release, is the perfect description of their sound -- they add a little bit of psychedelia, euphoria and mayhem to their grab bag of influences. Us SFists along with the kind folks at spinART Records would like you to enjoy the madness when By Divine Right plays at Red Devil Lounge this coming Wednesday. Click HERE to enter to win a pair of tickets. (Winners will be notified on Tuesday the 25th at 2pm PT.)

This week is chock full of concerts -- believe us, it's no time to be laid up with the flu. So take your vitamin C and go easy on the sauce if you're feeling a little under the weather. Tonight's the second night of Gomez's three night stand at Fillmore. Bottom of the Hill has the cinematic soundscapes of Film School with BoySkout and Madelia. Considering that it's already sold out, perhaps the place to be is Cafe Du Nord where Popscene presents NY buzz band The Bravery, The Peels and Every Move A Picture. There might be a few tickets available at the door if you get there early.

Don your best formal frock for the Mission Creek Music Fest Winter Ball on Saturday night at Rickshaw Stop. Performers include Erase Errata, The Mall, Amber Asylum, Extraordinary Forest, T.I.T.S. Dungeon Majesty and more. Kelley Stoltz, Time Flys and OCS are at Hemlock, and Bottom of the Hill has the New York grit of French Kicks and California melodies of dios malos. Slim's throws caution to the wind with a FREE rock n' roll show with The Naysayers, Dealers of Dynamite (feat. Josh and Teal from The Mothertruckers) and Slowfinger. You know what no cover charge means -- more money to spend on libations. Or cab fare. Another free option is the Moving Units in-store at Amoeba at 2pm. Great American has up-and-comers Elefant, Everybody Else and Citizens Here and Abroad, a local band that SFist Isaac says is one to watch. We hope to see you at the Elbo Room for the Jeff Klindt Memorial Benefit featuring Jackpot, Nik Freitas, Carlos Forster (of For Stars), and more. Founder of Deluxe and co-founder of Future Farmer Records, Jeff was an extremely special and creative soul who loved music and brought out hidden talents in everyone who had the good fortune to know him. Tickets are $10 sliding scale with all proceeds to benefit LittleKidsRock.com in Jeff's name.

LuxxurySunday afternoon brings opportunity for more free music at Amoeba. Bonnie "Prince" Billy (aka Will Oldham) & Matt Sweeney perform live in support of their new album Superwolf on Drag City, in an exclusive bay area performance. Later that night, SFist Matt recommends taking the kids to the Children's Television Rock Shop at Blakes in Berkeley. Come for the $1 beers and stay for screenings of classic "Sesame Street" and "Electric Company" episodes. The Dead Hensons host (alas, they're not performing) and milk and cookies will be served. Over at 12 Galaxies, Pirate Cat Radio introduces the weekly Club Pirate Cat broadcasted live, with Pirate DJs, cheap drinks and live music. Be sure to catch the dirty, flirty glam of locals Luxxury.

SFist Isaac recommends Chris Brokaw at Bottom of the Hill on Tuesday, formerly of the band Come. Tuesday also brings the Swedes of Soundtrack of Our Lives to The Independent with New York's Inouk. Start your Wednesday night early with another Amoeba in-store at 6pm. Lou Barlow will be performing from his latest release Emoh, out now on Merge Records. Keep the indie folk flowing later that night with bay area balladeer David Dondero performing at Cafe Du Nord. And, at least two of you lucky contest-winning SFists will be at the Red Devil Lounge when Live 105 presents By Divine Right. Don't forget to enter to win!
