For all those New Year’s revelers looking to party-hop or wondering how they are drunkenly going to stumble home after drinking way too much champagne, there are plenty of public transportion options available. MUNI will be free from 8 that night til 6 in the morning and the Metro runs (N, J, K, L, M) will be operating on weekday schedules. Some major routes, however, might be re-routed depending on need so pay attention to what bus is going where. That is, of course, if you happen to be able to get on MUNI because we’ve spent way too many major holidays stuck at a bus-stop waiting for whatever infrequently running bus comes by only to discover it’s too packed in tight to take in any more passengers (and don’t even get us started on finding a cab- last year some friends of SFist almost got into a fight with other people over a cab).

BART will offer a $5 “flash-pass” which upon flashing, will let the rider travel anywhere. This offer is good from 6 PM til 3 in the morning and yes, that’s right, BART will run til 3 that morning. SamTrans will be free starting 11 that night and runs regular service and as for AC Transit and Golden Gate Transit, they'll be operating normal weekday schedules too. No free rides, but AC Transit will be offering a discount.
