New SFist Contributor: Jeremy Nisen

jeremy.jpg A SoCal transplant, Jeremy did a long stint in D.C. before moving to San Fran in 1998. He and his wife currently reside in a dungeon on Nob Hill. He spends his days editing finance-related research, drinking way too much coffee, and brainstorming ideas for stories that he rarely gets around to actually writing, as he's too busy obsessing over online Scrabble.

Another way of putting it is Jeremy has seen the light and lives in San Francisco. Welcome Jeremy!

Name: Jeremy A. Nisen

Introduce yourself in one sentence: Hi, I'm Jeremy.

Age and Occupation: 30, copyeditor at a ratings agency

Home Town: Santa Barbara, Calif.

How long have you lived in the Bay Area and Where
Almost 7 years; I did a year in the Richmond (less than a block from Trad'r Sams); been in Nob Hill for almost 6 years. Moved for a job opportunity; stay because we like it.

Favorite website: Besides SFist?

Favorite dot com or local business: Craigslist. Practical AND entertaining (I love the job discussion boards)

What I'm currently Reading: Fortress of Solitude by Jonathan Lethem, plus catching up on backlog of the Atlantic Monthly.

Best Deal in San Francisco: Free samples with every purchase at See's candy.

Favorite mode of transportation: Feet.

Best Band or Musician to come out of the Bay Area: I like a bunch, but Sly and the Family Stone, The Dead, and Boz Scaggs are the first off the top of my head.

Favorite local hangout: Only happens a fews days a
year, I never miss the annual Alternative Press Expo (this year it's in April). Alternative and underground comix.

SF has the BEST: little moments waiting to be discovered

Favorite Bay area politician of past or present: can't say that I have one -- they're all evil. A necessary evil, but evil nonetheless. I have a few "most hated," but why be negative?

You can tell someone is a local here IF: with all the variety in this city, you really just never know.

Favorite author to come out of the Bay Area: Frank Norris.

Place you always tell visitors to check out: Ferry Building Farmers' Market (Sunday version)

You have two hours and $15 bucks to kill in SF, what are you going to do? One slooow drink at the Carnelian room, just for the view, plus tip: $10. Cable Car to the top of Nob Hill, hanging off the outside and watching the city $3 which in itself is an outrage, but whatever). Walk north down Mason Street to Gallery Cafe for whatever coffee $2 will get me.

I have found/sold/bought the following on craigslist: I found MY JOB!!

SF would be soooo much better if only: drivers would stop running red lights all the damned time.

Best Burrito: taqueria castillo or el toro

Best Restaurant: There are a bunch. Current favorite is 1550 Hyde.

Best movie scene filmed in or about SF: I'm waiting for "The Gavin Newsom Story."

I want all the SFists out there to know: "McTeague," by Frank Norris, is the best San Fran-centric book EVER.

Tell us a San Francisco Story: Unfortunately, they're all tales of dot-com era obnoxiousness, so I'll spare you.

We love SFist Questions
BEST story EVER on SFist so far: I like that guy who goes to coffee places. Kidding. No, really, I loved "New York Has Great Mexican Food, Psych". Nothing I love as much as a good natured city vs. city throwdown.

BEST Picture on SFist: I'm partial to Jackson's special Halloween logo, actually.

I wanted to be an SFist contributor because (besides the obvious fame and glory that would be mine): Because all copyeditors really want to do is write (tongue firmly in cheek).

No one from the Bay Area or San Francisco would ever call SF "San Fran", except for east coast transplants, please eradicate this problem before pretending to be an SF blog. Blogs like this would never work in SF, because this is not New York, and parochialism is not even funny around here. Oh, I'm actually writing from New York.

nice shoes.
