SFist Watches: TV This Week

The season isn't what it used to be, and by that we mean the TV season. Once upon a time, shows began in the fall and ended at the beginning of summer. But these days you've got shows beginning in the summer, and even the spring. Some fall shows don't premiere until January, and other fall shows are ending this month. It's enough to drive a couch potato to the great outdoors!

Reality TV is much to blame for the wackiness in the TV season. While many dramas and sitcoms can offer 20 or more episodes a season, most reality shows go for shorter runs. After all, real people can get real annoying really quickly.

America's Next Top Model is one of the reality shows ending its season this week. The final episode airs Wednesday at 8:00pm (with a re-run Friday at 9:00pm). God bless Tyra Banks. None of that three-hour finale crap for her show. Instead, she eliminates TWO of the girls and picks a winner in the course of a single hour! Will it be the legally blind, and lethally blonde Amanda? The dermatologically challenged Yaya? Or the season's bitch, Eva? (Our vote's on the bitch.) Local UPN affiliate KBHK will be hosting an America's Next Top Model Finale Party at the Metreon Wednesday night. Be one of the first 200 people to show up at the Metreon's Action Theater at 6:00pm, and watch an early screening of the show. Apparently, "eating and drinking" will be part of the event. Score!

The Apprentice is also ending its season this week. Of course, Donald Trump knows not from subtle, so NBC's entire Thursday night line-up will be devoted to the show. While we aren't really fans of either of the final two candidates--this entire season's cast was horrendous--we'll have to go with Kelly over Jennifer. She may be from San Francisco (well, she moved here to work for a law firm) but she's a blonde nightmare who has consistently done nothing, and taken credit for other people's work over the course of the season. Go Kelly!

In the non-reality realm, many shows take a hiatus in December, knowing that most people have other things to do besides watch TV. But that also provides viewers with a chance to catch up on some shows they might have missed in the past few months. So, if you've been reading about how great Lost is (and it is, oh yes, it is), now's your chance to see the early episodes you may have missed. The two-hour premier will re-run on ABC Wednesday at 8:00pm, followed by two more episodes the following Wednesday. SFist admits to being hopelessly addicted to the show's "What the?" plot developments, invisible monsters, pretty people, and black humor, but we'll warn you: those first two hours of the series pack a wallop. (If you're afraid of flying, don't watch it right before hoping on a plane for some holiday traveling.)

Just trust us. You'd be wise to get Lost...
