A gang member and the reputed head of the Big Block gang, whom the police have informally linked to five previous murders over the last year, was himself shot and killed in Bayshore this weekend, when he went to get his car repaired. The police noticed a drop in crime when he was in custody, but worry that his killing will trigger a surge in gang-related violence.
Police continue the search for the woman who left a dead newborn in the bathroom of a Greyhound bus going from Salt Lake City to San Francisco this weekend. The police had previously detained a woman who had had some kind of confrontation with Greyhound authorities in Sacramento before boarding the bus, but have since released her after taking a DNA sample.
And two teenage girls have sued a nail salon in San Jose for failing to sterilize their foot baths, claiming that bacteria in the whirlpools caused them severe scarring on their legs. One girl, who is 11, has over 100 sores on one leg and 85 on the other.
