SFist Krissy has got the following on rotation: Jolie Holland - "escondida" (a.k.a. the recent Guardian covergirl); South San Gabriel "Welcome Convalesence" (Centro-matic's mellow alter ego; unreleased Esthero single -- listen here -- from the forthcoming We R In Need Of A Musical Revolution EP. Great music with a message one can agree with.)
SFist Alex weighs in with the following picks:
AC Newman -- The Slow Wonder, the New Pornographers front man drops the band, drops a solo album and definitely proves that sometimes less is more.
Luna - Rendezvous, listening to this music feels like watching "Lost In Translation"
Lucy - Lights Out, local rockers whose January 5th benefit show at Bottom of the Hill is not to be missed. (full disclosure: stand-up comic and SFist Alex will be MCing the show.)
Razorlight -- Up All Night, solid Brit rock -- be sure to check out their next SF live show at Bottom of the Hill in January. Their popscene appearance convinced SFist that they will be the *NEXT* big british thing.
Dios Malos -- Dios, these guys came out last year but I worry that many people missed them the first time around. I'm still listening. ahh, SFist Alex Cares!!
SFist Matt weighs in with a FUTURE listening option for all you fogheads out there: the dead hensons, an awesome local band that covers muppet music, will be appearing live on kfog (104.5) on thursday, december 16th, at 7:30am. the band is a huge kick in the pants and has a relatively wide following (that is, as wide as you'd expect for a muppet cover band), and it's sure to be an awesome show. and they're playing at blake's in berkeley on the 17th. What can we say? Anything that weird has got to be worth checking out.. will take you back to Friday nights as a child in the 80's
SFist emily has two equally perverse musical suggestions for this week. 1- bring in the holiday spirtit with Los Straighjacket's holiday album, "Tis the Season for Los Straighjackets". When is NOT the season for that loveable mexican wrestling mask wearing crew? Think muzak style carols done with surf guitar. It's surprisingly addictive stuff. 2- Get in your car (borrow one if you must) and drive around your neighborhood blasting track #2 off of Fannypack's album "So Stylistic" that's "Hey Mommy" in case you're wondering) and get excited for their second album to be released.
