We Read The Weeklies
...to avoid eye contact with our family at Thanksgiving! Sorry we're coming out late this week -- flight delays, you know.
Happy Turkey weekend! The Weekly has been toiling over a hot stove all week to bring you the following meal, stuffed with the following delights! Letter to the Editor from the SF Human Rights Commission and libertarian response from the editor over PUNI-gate -- the Mission controversy that never ends! Infiltrator discourages people from signing an anti-immigration petition at the Cow Palace gun show ("what part of illegal don't you understand?") -- all is forgiven with the anti-choice action, Infiltrator! Cover article: a tour of Red America. Cute graphics. In our "we all write about the same things" division, a review of There Is Nothing Wrong In This Whole Wide World and a book by the NaNoWriMo creator in the literary section. A long pullout section about ChrisMaHanuKwanzaKah shopping (who wants nipple balm? Raise your hand!). A only slightly defensive piece about how the new Green Day album is pretty good. Savage Love -- what to say to the person you think had a sex change, buying masturbation gloves for your children, and "confidential to Justin: don't date people who use crystal meth." Good advice not just to Justin but to all of us this holiday season!
And would you look at all the fine mince pies brought by the Bay Guardian? They report that the California Culinary Academy crossed the hotel picket lines to provide replacement restaurant workers. (The Bay Guardian's pies, of course, are appropriately left-wing.) Cover article: going DIY for the holidays -- make your own soap handguns! You know, that seems like it could lead to trouble. Sonic Reducer reports that Carl Newman, solo artist and New Pornographer, recently featured on the O.C., is moving from Vancouver to SF (at least for a little bit). And the hip-hop dance festival so far has been fun. Hooray For Anything is south of the equator for his holiday, so, regretfully, no wank of the week (but stop by and check out his postings from abroad).
Unfortunately, the EBX and the Metro didn't come up to San Francisco this Thanksgiving, so we'll go straight to the Weekly of the Week! No contest -- the Weekly takes the title, along with a side dish of sweet potatoes. Send all gifts of nipple balm this way!
