Week in SFist

We'd like to point out that our fair state's evil anti-smoking laws have finally struck the Lone Palm -- we were told no more smoking last night. Almost makes us wanna move to a nice, tolerant red state where we can smoke and drink away our sense of impending doom like a normal human being.

We had two new weekly features debut this week - the Trimethyldioxypurist will be bringing you slightly jittery thoughts on the local coffee culture and the independently owned establishments that make it happen every Monday. If you want to know what weird songs are turning up on SFist's collective shuffle setting, check out SFist listens on Wednesdays. We'll also be chronicling the efforts of a NaNoWriMo novelist for the rest of the month - find out what it's like to write an entire novel in a month, or "What Danielle Steele does once a year for parking permit money."

SFist Rita makes us laugh, makes us cry, and makes us read her posts again and again. She shook off her election hangover long enough to post on vulgar District 5 Supervisor candidate H. Brown and vulgar District 6 Supervisor incumbent Chris Daly. She also stopped to point out some interesting analyses of the RCV results, since we're the first major city to implement this option. And then there's the big news from Oakland: Pandas!

What to do this weekend? You missed the rodeo at the Cow Palace, but you can still catch superheroes behind the scenes in Berkeley, buy great prints for a greater cause, or take a drive from San Fierro to Los Santos. We'll be going to see Gift of Gab tonight at Bimbos 365 with lucky winners Jeremy Y. and Dawn W., and will spend the rest of the weekend doing laundry and otherwise trying to be responsible.

Update: Our email was down, so we forgot to let y'all know about Fray Day 8, happening tomorrow. Derek Powazek over at Ephemera says it'll be awesome, and will have the pics to prove it on Monday.
