Introducing SFist Listens
First SFist showed you a glimpse of our lives through the weekly SFist Reads feature. Now we’re going to share even more with you. This is the first of a new weekly feature dedicated to help everyone with their daily soundtracks. Look, we really don’t want to get into any fights. Other than an avowed love of all things Bay Area-centric, SFist Listens is not an endorsement of any musical style or group. We’ve got an eclectic crew at SFist: DJ’s, hip-hop moguls, hipsters, reformed emo kids, and even a few opera fans. If you don’t like some of our picks, you don’t have to listen. If you’ve got some stuff you think we’d like, feel free to post it in the comments. Give AND take. Read us weekly and soon you’ll be the go to for music tips amongst your crowd.
This week SFist Mary Lynn recommends the following as a means of coping if you haven’t yet fled to Canada and are down about four more years of W: "Tragedy" by the Bee Gees; "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats; "Raise a Little Hell" by Trooper; "I'm a Dick" The Muffs; and "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes
SFist Alex has his iPod working over time with the following:
*The Futureheads "Self Titled" -- rumor has it they'll be playing Popscene in a few weeks.
*The Arcade Fire "Funeral"
*The Kings of Convenience "Riot on an Empty Street"
*Radio 4 Stealing of a Nation" --
*Earlimart "Treble & Tremble"
*Ambulance Ltd. "Self Titled"
SFist Krissy has preserved sanity of late by rocking out with:
*Ian Moore "Luminaria" (Yep Roc Records) (full disclosure: He's a good friend of Krissy's but hey, if your own friends won’t listen to you there’s not much hope, eh?)
*Ted Leo and the Pharmacists "Shake the Sheets" (Lookout! Records) ***WE LOVE LOCAL LABELS**
*Tilly and the Wall "Wild Like Children" (Team Love)
*Arcade Fire "Funeral" (Merge Records) For those of you keeping score, these kids have gotten 2 SFist votes this week.
SFist Dahlia has been studying to The Postal Service lately, as well as Rilo Kiley's new album, "More Adventures". Hopefully when she’s done with the quarter she can still listen to both of these excellent picks without to much negative association.
SFist Isaac made it through one recent weekday by pumping the following at his office (but be forwarned, he's in the music biz, some of this may not go over so well at your work place):
*B-52s "Channel Z"
*Mac Dre "2 Hard for the Fuckin' Radio"
*The Gories "I Know You Fine, But How You Doin'"
*Lateef & The Chief "Ambush"
*Philip Sherburne "Schaffel is Stronger Than Pride" Mix
SFist Emily has been jogging to some old Jawbreaker, and cleaning house to Erlend Oye's stuff (He's 1/2 of the Kings of Convenience AND he's Norwegian!) and studying to The Smiths.
