SFist Watches: Movies This Weekend All Horror Edition
Even if this weren't Halloween weekend, we'd be a litle bit psyched about seeing Saw, a violent and gory thriller starring The Dread Pirate Roberts and Detective Murtaugh. Meta comedy aside, this movie about genius serial killers and hand saws looks seriously creepy. Then again, the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (interestingly enough, the original is also referred to as "Saw" by ardent fans) also had a kick-a** trailer, and we all know how crummy that one was. We're willing to take our chances and make it our big budget pick of the week. You can catch it at any of our fine Bay Area metroplexes.
If that isn't scary enough for you, how about this Saturday's Midnight Mass at The Bridge? Miss Peaches Christ brings you Reanimator, a touching tale of star-crossed love, medical school, and unwilling organ donation. Sfist would like to share with you all that we used to find this to be a foolproof third-date movie, if you get our drift (and, dear reader, we know you do). While we promise nothing, we dare you to take the apple of your eye to see what develops.
The Castro brings us a different kind of fear with their Sunday showing of the original Manchurian Candidate. Watch Old Blue Eyes go bonkers, as you quietly give thanks that you don't live in a world where something as awful as the plot of this film could ever, ever take place.
Say you prefer your vilians to be monsters...of rock! Then head on down to the Red Vic for Metallica: Some Kind Of Monster. While this might be less traditionally spooky than your typical Halloween film, we still think the demons of drug addiction, the forgotten ghost of Napster, and the zombisim caused by group therapy make this documentary about tha Bay Area band in crisis one of them scariest ones out there.
And if you still haven't had a chance to catch Shaun of the Dead (go see it at Sfist's beloved 4-Star) or The Grudge (and we also love the Coronet, so go see it there), this weekend is your big chance to get out there, eat some tiny candy bars, and get scared sh**less!
