We Read The Weeklies

...and they all seem very worked up about something going on next Tuesday -- now, what was it again....?

mn_protest-newsbox_bw.jpgThe Weekly comes out of the box swinging in a publisher column, where Mecklin defends PUNI's Dan Siegel, apologizes to Mission residents, but not to city hall -- and then segues seamlessly into haranguing the Guardian about the lawsuit they filed and says the only reason why the Guardian's ad sales are down are because they're boring. Owwwwch! A good Ted Rall strip about the debates. Infiltrator dresses like a clown at a haunted house. A pretty helpful article about the school board election (conclusion: why can't they just get along?). Cover article: Indian tribes trying to get casinos. Savage Love on circumcision, a dude who got the top of his penis cut off in a circumcision accident, and voting for John Kerry.

mn_destroy1.jpgThe Bay Guardian has their handy-dandy progressives' guide on how to vote in the election. Clip and save, either to vote for their endorsements, or against! A story (which is only online) detailing the run-around the author got from the Chron in trying to find out why they no longer run Paul Krugman's column. A lot of freakin' ads for people running in District 5. Annalee Newitz wants a flu vaccine, the sex columnist runs a column of suspected fake letters, and the Sonic Reducer interviews bands against Bush. And Hooray For Anything briefly pauses in his rioting in the streets for the Sox to give us the wank of the week (and while you're there, check out his blog entry on the Cubs too right underneath. It's so true!).

The East Bay Express, the San Jose Metro, and the Weekly of the Week after the jump.

a01californa.jpgThe East Bay Express! Bottom Feeder reports on a guy running for school board in West Contra Costa County who's given up on his race so he can focus on getting Kerry elected, because getting Kerry elected was much more important. Awesome. A collection of articles on a variety of Election 2004 issues (tribal gaming, paper ballots, Fremont mayoral election) and a hilarious article where people like you and me read the write-ups of the state propositions in the guidebook (hello, eyestrain), explain them, and then get corrected by actual experts. The music columnist on songs about California, songs about how there are too many songs about California, and proposing that California's state song be changed to California Love. And they run the Savage Love but without the exhortation to vote for Kerry at the end! Political statement or editorial policy? You be the judge.

And the Metro -- ...and even more election coverage! Narcoleptic adjunct professor at UC Santa Cruz goes to jail for pot possession due to administrative screwups. Election articles: stem cells, another summary of the state props, and the Metro's local endorsements (Milpitas City Counsil, San Jose library parcel tax). 50 reasons to vote for Kerry (reason 2: "John Kerry does not need rich friends because he has a rich wife."). The San Jose Museum of Art features paintings of imagined California disasters. And the Straight Dope: which U.S. Presidents have personally killed a man, just to watch him die? (Answer: Andrew Jackson, Grover Cleveland, Teddy Roosevelt, and George Washington. G-Dub!)

And the weekly of the week.... we're going to go with No Endorsement. After going through these, we kind of feel like that narcoleptic Santa Cruz professor (only we're not brewing up pot brownies while we write this). Though we probably are going to clip and save the Bay Guardian endorsement sheet.
