Why did the chicken cross the road? Because there was an accident on Highway 37 in Vallejo this morning. Around 3:00 a.m., a driver carrying a big rig filled with chickens hit the center divider, requiring both sides of the highway to be closed as workers chased down the escaped fowl. The driver is fine, but some birds were killed.
In general, it was a tough weekend for the car -- our first big rain storm of the winter, as usual, rendered everyone in the area unable to drive. There were 38 accidents in the South Bay -- and more rain is expected starting tonight.
We can't even tell you in good conscience to take the bus, either -- the SFPD has announced that it has arrested a serial MUNI molester, who would press up against women on the 38 Geary over the course of this year. The man arrested has a history of statutory rape and child molestation/harassment, and claims it was all an accident. Given how crowded it gets on the 38, the DAs think they'll probably plead the case out. MUNI encourages you to report crimes on buses as soon as they happen, so they can use the footage from the surveillance tapes, which are otherwise erased within 72 hours. Maybe best just to stay inside this week.
