Political Junkie
Oh, San Francisco Board of Supervisors Class of 1995 -- where are you now?
Mr. Most Likely to Succeed, Kevin Shelley (seated, as the President of the Board). As of today, federal officials are troubled by what appears to be misuse by Shelley's office (the California Secretary of State) of federal funds that were to be used for nonpartisan voter education but were instead directed to partisan pro-Kerry and pro-Democratic party activities. Shelley's office claims this was all due to bad contractors, who have since been fired.
To Shelley's right and wearing the corsage, Prom Queen Mabel Teng. As of today, the investigation into her political back-scratching and barrel-rolling for the Assessor-Recorder's office continues, with revelation in today's Matier and Ross that she gave a political donor and long-time city contractor a $103,000 tax break when reassessing the value of his house.
And standing next to Teng in the blue suit and the frizzy hair, Miss Congeniality Carole Migden. Yesterday's Matier and Ross reported that Migden, who is currently on the Board of Equalization and is running for John Burton's seat in the state Senate, was so rude at recent campaign events in Marin that several local papers have withdrawn their endorsements of her. Migden, described as "hell on high heels" in the column, demanded that a candidates' debate be moved to an earlier time because of her schedule, then showed up late, refused to debate her rival Andrew Felder, went long on her comments, and then refused to shake Felder's hand.
Others in the class? Most Studious Terence Hallinan (standing at the far right) and Miss Popularity Angela Alioto (at Shelley's left). Everyone else, from left to right: Willie Kennedy, Tom Hsieh, Barbara Kaufman, Susan Leal, Tom Ammiano, and Sue Bierman.
