What do you get when you combine dozens of crazily decorated cars, tricked out bikes, local politicians, mounds of sarcasm, and a few naked folks on a Sunday? It can only be the 9th Annual "How Berkeley Can You Be?" parade and festival held Sunday the 19th in downtown Berkeley.
The theme of this year's festivities was LOCO-MOTION in order to encourage us all to think before we buy yet another car and to consider alternative forms of transportation. Although the parade was delayed from the early morning rain, once it got rolling spectators were rewarded with Cheer San Francisco, Mayor Tom Bates, the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, AC Transit's new hydrogen fuel cell bus, Emeryville Taiko drummers, supporters of upcoming ballot issues, Billionaires for Bush, peace seekers, fashionistas, solar powered vehicles, homegrown bikes, local bands, canines galore and more one of a kind cars than this waitress could count. Of course no parade in the area would be complete without a few Klingons, prostitutes, and everyone's favorite, Pink Man.
This year's parade proved once again that Berkeley is in a league of her own and we wouldn't have her any other way! You can see more highlights from the festivities all this week at the photoblog.
