SFPDWe're still following the very sad story about the 4-year-old boy thrown out of a van into the Bay this Tuesday. The driver, who was unlicensed, was taking the 4-year-old's parents and some others to Oakland Children's Hospital to see their sick baby. The van then suddenly veered into a guardrail on the San Mateo Bridge, and the impact of the crash sent a 3-year-old boy and the 4-year-old through the rear window of the van and into the water. One adult jumped about 15 feet into the bay and managed to rescue the 3-year-old, but the 4-year-old has still not been found. The boys were not in car seats. The police are thinking about pressing manslaughter charges against the driver.

A Marin "firebrand," famous for challenging San Anselmo's City Hall, is refusing to leave Kaiser's Terra Linda hospital since January 29, 2004, claiming that her legs remain broken and she is unable to walk. Kaiser says she's fine, and has sued to evict her, claiming she now owes them over $300,000 in fees.

A sophomore at Manteca High School has been suspended after a parent discovered a hit list of 49 classmates on her website, entitled "Prep Massacre." School officials are shocked, noting that the student had always done very well in class, and that nothing on the website said she was actually going to kill anyone. Investigations are ongoing.

A man was attacked without provocation by a Mountain View K-9 patrol dog during a police stop. The man, an African-American walking with his Caucasian girlfriend, has claimed he was racially profiled and that the police sicced the dog on him. The police say the man and his girlfriend were arguing violently at the time the stop was conducted (by an undercover cop and a backup team), and that Tino the German Shepherd misunderstood the situation and believed the officers were in danger. The man received stitches in his leg and is contacting various civil rights groups to prepare for a suit. Tino is on administrative leave.
