SFist loves the Mission and thinks it's just about one of the most creatively vibrant places in the world. We were excited to get a press release detailing the thirtieth anniversary celebration of Southern Exposure, one of our favorite local arts organizations. They work with local and international artists to develop work and also participate in the community by connecting with local artists and youngsters to collaborate on projects and serve as an arts education forum. Many local artists have either learned at the knee of, been funded by or shown work at Southern Exposure over the last few decades.
The Way We Work will feature groups from five cities, three countries and two continents, making it a truly international show. United Net-Works will bring their collaborative show-on-the-road all the way from Stockholm, Sweden. They are compiling an archive of work from artists, designers and curators which they've been collecting on their round the world tour - check out the submission guidelines if you want to get involved. Instant Coffee will be repping Toronto, Ontario and bringing their event-based perspective to the show by blending the process of creation and exhibition. Fellow left-coasters Red76 bring their voter education drive, in the form of placemats, from Portland, Oregon. If you're in the neighborhood, tune in to Oakland's Neighborhood Public Radio, a low-watt broadcast that will originate from the offices of Southern Exposure evenings and weekends during the show. MendeDesign, Volume Design and Stretcher.org will be our local San Fran representatives, bringing design and criticism to the people in interactive ways through guerilla advertising and personal reflections on media and the arts.
At five bucks on any given night this show promises to be a great way to support Southern Exposure, participate in these interactive pieces and meet some contemporary artists from around the globe. Opening night is this Friday - SFist will see you there!
