SFist is usually more energized by small theater than large, but we'd be remiss if we didn't give props to A.C.T., which just opened The Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets, a collaboration between the renowned avant-garde master Robert Wilson, William S. Burroughs and the Bay Area's own Tom Waits and starring Marianne Faithfull. The show opened this week and garnered a rave from Rob Hurwitt, who called it a gift to the Bay Area. At the Geary Theater -- check the website for showtimes and ticket prices.

Chanticleers Theatre in Castro Valley is showing Neil Simon's Come Blow Your Horn. Come on, you know you like Neil Simon sometimes. But don't let that make you fall into the trap that is the made-for-TNT version of The Goodbye Girl, which they've been replaying recently. This is the comic tale of the Baker Boys' struggle for independence from their father/employer. Not to be confused with The Fabulous Baker Boys. Tonight and tomorrow at 8pm; tickets $8-$13. At the Chanticleers Theatre, 3683 Quail Ave., Castro Valley, 510-733-5483.
Darvag, an Iranian-American troupe based in Berkeley, presents Death of Yazdgerd by Bahram Beyzaie. From the company's website: "The play is set in 654 AD, which marks the collapse of The Sassanid Empire. War with the Muslim Arabs is raging and King Yazdgerd is dead -- his murdered body found in a run-down mill in the Iranian desert. Now charged with murder, the miller, his wife and his sickly daughter must tell their story to the commanders to escape torture and death. Who killed the King? Was Yazdgerd indeed the revered God-King, or a puny, immoral man caught in the destructive whirlwind of his times? Part Greek-tragedy, part family-drama, Death of Yazdgerd weaves a web of mystery and unfolds the fate of the King as well as that of a nation in ruin and steeped in corruption." Tonight and tomorrow at 8pm, Sunday at 7pm; all tickets $15. At the Ashby Stage, 1091 Ashby in Berkeley, which is right across the street from the Ashby BART station.
In Orinda, you can check out Woody Allen's Don't Drink the Water, put on by the Orinda Starlight Village Players, which doesn't have a website, we guess. Luddites. And before we wrap this up, we hope you won't mind another plug for our current favorite local production (full disclosure, as always -- this writer is a very active member of the company), Impact Theatre's Fluffy Bunnies in a Field of Daisies, a comedy about the virgin/whore complex, which got a positive review not only from our colleague here at SFist but also from the Oakland Tribune. It's playing tonight and tomorrow at 8pm; tickets $10-15. At La Val's Subterranean, 1834 Euclid in Berkeley. Call 510 464-4468.
