Darko Sees the Light at the Lumiere

Donnie Darko, which flopped in its brief run in theaters three years ago but picked up a massive cult audience in DVD rentals and sales (current Amazon sales rank: 127), is being given a rare second shot on the big screen with a director's cut. Recent test runs in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and a few other cities were apparently good enough to merit a slightly wider release. So it shows up at Landmark's Lumiere this Friday, with multiple showings including one at midnight, de rigueur for cult hits. Donnie Darko takes over the Lumiere's schedule from another DD movie, Danny Deckchair; at press time it was unclear whether the latter film will acquire a similarly rabid audience or simply sink into oblivion.
