SFist Culinary Digest

Herb Caen (photo: center, to the left of some guy), SFist's idol and mentor, called us (in a play on President Taft's quote) "The City that Knows Chow." And how. In San Francisco most of the food press arrives on SFist's doorstep on Wednesday. The Chron, The Weekly, The Bay Guardian - first, second and third helpings of food in print. Why do we obsess? I'm not sure. But the eats around here are the best.

-Dan Leone, an SFist favorite, briefly covers the Al Hamra in Cheap Eats. How do they keep fitting resaurants in at 16th and Valencia? Somehow the laws of physics must be broken. Paul Reidinger has the recipe for your date with that new vegetarian girlfriend.

-Italian? In North Beach? I know, I can't believe it either. Tara Duggan and Lesli Nielson brave pasta amongst the out-of-towners. Olivia Wu covers an Oaktown spot SFist has yet to visit but wants to, Oliveto.

-Meredith Brody double-dips twice (triple-dips?), covering The San Francisco Silent Film Festival between bites at Home and Thailand Restaurant.
